The Elusive Miniature Siberian Husky

I’ve had an interest in Siberian Huskies since 1994 and I’ve read whatever I could get my hands on, about Huskies, throughout the years. Much to my surprise, I have not heard of miniature Siberian Huskies until the Spring of 2005. I do not have any books on Miniature Siberian Huskies and unfortunately I was not able to find much information online either.

I found only one site, Picture of a cute gray Miniature Siberian Huskyminihuskies.net, owned by miniature Siberian Husky breeders. In their brief frequently asked questions section, they state their puppies are indeed a miniature version of the Siberian Husky breed, and are not related to the Alaskan Klee Kai breed. Now you might wonder, what exactly is an Alaskan Klee Kai?

If you search Google for miniature Siberian Huskies, you will get results that talk about miniature Alaskan Huskies. These Miniature Alaskan Huskies are also called Klee Kai. Thus far, it seems these two breeds have nothing in common with each other. Miniature Siberian Huskies descend from Siberian Huskies and Miniature Alaskan Huskies descend from Alaskan Huskies.

A Klee Kai is not a Mini Sibe. I do not know how these mini breeds were developed, (which different breeds were mixed to come up with the end result) but until I know better, I will consider the Miniature Siberian and Alaskan dogs not related to each other.

*Updates* I contacted the Miniature Siberian Husky breeders for more information and they replied to my email. This is what they had to say: ”miniature Siberian Huskies are just like regular Huskies, and are actually a natural occurring mutation in the breed. We have only insured that this naturally occurring mutation will reoccur, through selective breeding. Temperament, behavior and all other mannerisms remain the same, as we are not endeavoring to create a new breed, but to make it possible for everyone to know the joys of owning a Siberian Husky. As for Alaskan Klee Kais, they are mixed breed dogs. They were made by crossing Alaskan Huskies with small dogs such as American Eskimos and Pomeranians. (Many breeders deny Pomeranians were used, but will admit Schipperkes were also used)” A Miniature Siberian Husky is between 10 to 14 inches in height, and it weighs less than 25lbs. Disclaimer:

I do not personally know the breeder mentioned in this article. I’m only sharing the findings of my research with you here, and it’s your responsibility to thoroughly research a breeder before you make a commitment to buy a dog. It’s important to know about all health screenings the breeder does for their dogs, as well as what sort of guaranties are available from the breeder, should your dog develop problems you are not responsible for. Please use caution, common sense and do your research :)

I am not a dog breeder. I do not own or sell any miniature Siberian huskies
